What 5-HTP is
5-hydroxytryptophan, or 5-HTP, is an intermediate used by the body to synthesize serotonin. Supplemental 5-HTP is often marketed for mood, sleep or appetite-related goals.
What human research suggests
Memorial Sloan Kettering summarizes preliminary studies suggesting 5-HTP may reduce food intake or increase satiety in some populations. It also notes that trials are small or limited and that larger, better-designed studies are needed.
Why dose matters
An ingredient appearing on a label does not establish that the dose matches doses used in published studies. Finished-product blends can also change absorption, timing and tolerability.
Side effects and interactions
MSK lists gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea among common adverse effects. It also warns about serotonin-related drug interactions and advises physician supervision when 5-HTP is combined with antidepressants or other serotonergic medicines.
Connection to SeroBurn
SeroBurn publicly lists 5-HTP among its ingredients. That supports the product’s serotonin-oriented positioning but does not prove the finished product changes appetite or body weight to a specific degree.
